Photographic Lunar Atlas: Table III

(glossary entry)

The following list of recommended changes to the IAU Nomenclature of 1935 appeared on pages 13-15 of G. P. Kupier et al.'s Photographic Lunar Atlas. Most of the changes listed here were officially adopted by the IAU in 1961 (IAU Transactions XIB); however Kuiper's proposed changes to the spelling of Le Monnier and Regnault were rejected as were several of the original French (mis)spellings in Named Lunar Formations.

  • Note: the references to "I.A.U name" in Table IIIa reflect the way those names appeared in the Index of Named Lunar Formations (1935). In a number of cases (particularly those with parenthetical additions) these are not the spellings recommended in the body of that work. For example, Bond (G.P.) in the Index is spelled Bond in the text. Mayer (T.) is Tobias Mayer (with a recommended abbreviation of "To. May."), Mayer (C.) is Christian Mayer (with a recommended abbreviation of "Chr. Ma."), etc.
