Named Features
- Abulfeda (Van Langren's Derkenni).
- Albategnius (the eastern part of this crater is seen above the lower left corner of Chart 45).
- Andel
- Apollo 16 (LM Orion soft-landed on April 21, 1972, north of Descartes).
- Asia Minor (regio) (J.Hewelcke's disallowed name for the whole of Chart 45).
- Barcroft (a disallowed name from H.P.Wilkins for the subdued crater Dollond B, southeast of Lindsay).
- Burnham
- Caramuelis (Van Langren's disallowed name for the peculiar high-albedo region at the bowl-shaped craterlets Descartes C and Dollond E).
- Cayley Plains (an informal name for the plains north of Apollo 16's landing site, see Chart 12 in the 21st Century Atlas of the Moon, C.A.Wood/ M.J.S.Collins).
- Descartes
- Descartes Highlands (an informal name for Apollo 16's landingsite).
- Descartes Mountains (an informal name, see Chart 12 in the 21st Century Atlas of the Moon, C.A.Wood/ M.J.S.Collins).
- Dollond
- Halley (Van Langren's Gansii, J.Hewelcke's Mons Cimaeus).
- Hipparchus (the eastern half of this crater is seen at left) (J.Hewelcke's Mons Olympus).
- Hipparchus C (a bowl shaped high-albedo crater which looks straight at you when you observe the Full Moon through telescope, see Additional Information below).
- Hind (Van Langren's Trautmansdorffii) (note: indeed... Hind sounds a lot easier than Trautmansdorffii) (was also known as J.Hewelcke's Mons Cimaeus).
- Horrocks (Van Langren's Slavatae).
- Lade
- Lindsay
- Pickering (another one of the Full Moon's staring eyes in this region, see Additional Information below).
- Ritchey
- Saunder
- Terra Dignitatis (Van Langren's disallowed name for the whole of Chart 45).
- Terra Sanitatis (Riccioli's discontinued name for the whole of Chart 45).
- Theon Junior
- Theon Senior
- Two ancient large craters (not really a name for the ruins of a couple of Hipparchus-sized ancient craters southeast of Saunder and north of Descartes) (see SLC map C5) (System of Lunar Craters, 1966) (how much of those two ancient craters could be observed during low-sun circumstances?).
- W.Pickering (a disallowed name from J.N.Krieger for the bowl shaped crater Hipparchus G).
Additional IAU-named features associated with the Apollo 16 Site
- Baby Ray (this tiny craterlet with very small high-albedo ejectablanket is perhaps detectable on webcam images made through powerful telescopes, during Full Moon)
- Cinco
- End
- Flag
- Gator (this craterlet is perhaps detectable on Hi-Res webcam images made through powerful telescopes during local sunrise or sunset circumstances)
- Halfway
- Kiva (this craterlet is perhaps detectable on Hi-Res webcam images made through powerful telescopes during local sunrise or sunset circumstances)
- North Ray (because of its high-albedo ejectablanket, this craterlet is detectable on Hi-Res webcam images made through powerful telescopes, during Full Moon)
- Palmetto (this craterlet is perhaps detectable on Hi-Res webcam images made through powerful telescopes during local sunrise or sunset circumstances)
- Plum
- Ravine (this craterlet is perhaps detectable on Hi-Res webcam images made through powerful telescopes during local sunrise or sunset circumstances)
- Smoky Mountains
- South Ray (because of its high-albedo ejectablanket, this craterlet is detectable on Hi-Res webcam images made through powerful telescopes, during Full Moon)
- Spook
- Spot
- Stone Mountain
- Stubby
- Trap
- Wreck

Additional Information

Wolf Rilla's Village of the Damned, and several bowl shaped high-albedo craters during Full Moon (staring eyes)
- Do you remember that rare black-and-white movie of 1960 in which a group of super intelligent (alien) children created havoc in an English village? Those children had very frightful looking eyes (the mesmerizing white iris effect). The same phenomenon (that white iris effect) is noticeable on the moon at the region depicted above. Bowl shaped high-albedo craters such as Hipparchus C' (in the distinct Halley-'Hind row of four) shows this staring eye effect very well, especially during Full Moon. The inner slopes of such bowl-shaped craters have a very high albedo, while their floors are sort of medium grey, very much like the staring eyes of the super intelligent (alien) children in Wolf Rilla's Village of the Damned. Children who were watching television in those days (the sixties) were afraid to go to sleep, because of those alien eyes! (me too! - DannyCaes Dec 22, 2015).
