(IAU Directions) HARDING.--A small ring-plain E. of Gerard, remarkable for the peculiar form of its shadow at sunrise, and for the ridges in its vicinity.

Nomenclature
- Named for Karl Ludwig Harding(1765-1834), a German astronomer. Harding began his career as an assistant to selenographer Johann Schröter, later working for Gauss and eventually publishing a catalog of 120,000 stars. He also discovered the third known asteroid, Juno.
- According to Whitaker (p. 219), this name was introduced by Mädler.
