Named Features

  • Arrowhead (see Mons Hansteen).
  • Blancani (Van Langren's disallowed name for Flamsteed Rho, etc.).
  • B-swirl (a nickname from D.Caes for the B shaped Reiner Gamma type swirl at 7 degrees South/ 54 degrees West).
  • Billy (of all lunar formations, the floor of this crater might show the most low-albedo value).
  • Burrell (a disallowed name from H.P.Wilkins for an uncertain formation near Hansteen. Could it be the B-swirl mentioned at the top of this list? This is perhaps also the same as J.F.J.Schmidt's Melloni).
  • Dorsa Flamsteed P (an unofficial name from D.Caes for the concentric system of wrinkle ridges inside the Flamsteed P ring) (the fork-shaped southern end of Dorsum Suess F north of the Flamsteed P ring seems to be part of the concentric system inside of it).
  • Dorsa Rubey
  • Dorsum Flamsteed A (an unofficial name from D.Caes for the wrinkle ridge northwest of the bowl-shaped crater Flamsteed A, this could be the northwestern continuation of Dorsa Rubey in Letronne).
  • Dorsum Letronne F (an unofficial name from D.Caes for the wrinkle ridge running across the bowl-shaped crater Letronne F, west-northwest of Letronne itself).
  • Fat H / Inflated H (two nicknames from D.Caes for a compact cluster of hillocks in the shape of an inflated H, southwest of Hansteen, at: LAT -12.91/ LON -53.95).
  • Flamsteed
  • Flamsteed P ring (the large ring north of Flamsteed itself, in which Surveyor 1 made the U.S.'s first soft lunar landing).
  • Flamsteed-Billy Basin (unofficial name).
  • Flamsteed G group (an unofficial name from D.Caes for the officially unnamed group of hills west of Flamsteed) (more precisely, this is a system of bay shaped crater segments, of which Flamsteed G is the largest one).
  • Hansteen
  • Insula Lea (J.Hewelcke's disallowed name for Letronne Pi, according to E.A.Whitaker at a bright spot).
  • Letronne
  • Linemannus (Riccioli's disallowed name for Flamsteed Kappa).
  • Mare Syrticum (J.Hewelcke's disallowed name for the southwestern "corner" of Oceanus Procellarum).
  • Melloni (a disallowed name from J.F.J.Schmidt for an uncertain formation somewhere near Hansteen, see also Burrell of H.P.Wilkins).
  • Mons Hansteen (Van Langren's Herlici) (also known as Hansteen Alpha or The Arrowhead).
  • Oblong craterlet (a nickname from D.Caes for an egg or rugbyball shaped craterlet west of Letronne F, at LAT: -9.26 / LON: -48.36) (shows something of an oblong central peak too!).
  • Oceanus Procellarum (Van Langren's Oceanus Philippicus) (the southern part of it, occupying the upper three-fourths of Chart 40).
  • Prom. Henrizi D. Venet (Van Langren's disallowed name for the region at, or slightly west of, Letronne).
  • Prom. Salamona (Van Langren's disallowed name for the region at, or near, Hansteen).
  • Rima Hansteen
  • Surveyor 1 (the U.S.'s first lunar lander, soft-landed on the northeastern part of the floor of the Flamsteed P ring) (Surveyor 1 - America's first soft lunar landing) (see also APOD article The Shadow of Surveyor 1; the 50th anniversary of the soft landing of Surveyor 1 at the Flamsteed P ring).
