Westfall, 2000: 2 km - According to LTVT, the shadow in LO-IV-102H indicates a height difference from the east rim to the flat floor varying from about 1780 m in the north to about 1970 m in the south. The ridge extending southward from the rim is about 1840 m tall at its start. The unnamed peak to the north casts a shadow indicating a height difference of 3000 m.
Nomenclature
- Named for Alberto Santos-Dumont (1873-1932), a Brazilian aeronautical engineer.
- This replacement name for a formerly lettered crater was provisionally introduced on LTO-41B4 (April 1975). It was among 120 names from the LTO's approved by the IAU in 1976 (IAU Transactions XVIB). - JimMosher JimMosher
- In his informal 1953 tour of Mare Imbrium, Leland Copeland referred to an area near Santos-Dumont and Promontorium Fresnel as the Hidden Valley. D.Caes research.
