Nomenclature
- Galen (AD 129 –ca. 200 or 216) of Pergamum was a prominent ancient Greek physician, whose theories dominated Western medical science for over a millennium.
- This replacement name for a formerly lettered crater appears on LTO-41C1, where it is listed as "approved by the IAU". Although Galen appears in the cumulative list of approved names in IAU Transactions XVB, it is not clear precisely when and where it was approved. Biographical information was unofficially reported in Ashbrook, 1974. - Jim Mosher
- Galen (Aratus A) was once known as Moumouris after Don Constantin Moumouris. This was one of Felix Chemla Lamèch's new names., but the I.A.U. did not accept that name. Research: Ewen A. Whitaker and Danny Caes (August 2003: mail correspondence).
