- Named for Andre Lallemand (1904-1978), a French astronomer noted for his work in the application of photomultipliers to astronomical research.
- According to Whitaker (p. 236), this name was introduced in NASA RP-1097 (a non-IAU publication). It was approved "as assigned" in IAU Transactions XIXB (1985). When and by whom it was called Kopff A is unclear.
