Just one look at Chrétien and immediately it can be seen that it is different to all the usual craters one is used to seeing. Its interior is filled with dark lava deposits that have extruded into it after the crater formed, while the surrounding, neigbouring craters, Chrétien C to its north-east and an unnamed crater to its north, have the same similar lava deposits. The general region must at one time, therefore, been the recipient of a major upheaval of these deposits from the interior occurring around the same time.
