Nomenclature

  • Named for Robert Emden (full name: Jacob Robert Emden, 1862-1940), a Swiss astrophysicist and meteorologist noted for his contributions to the theory of stars as gas spheres.
  • Emden was in the initial list of farside feature names published by the IAU in Menzel, 1971.
