Additional Information

Nomenclature

  • Named for Hisashi Kimura (1870 – September 26, 1943), a Japanese astronomer. He devoted his career to the study and measurement of variation in latitude, building upon the work of Seth Carlo Chandler, who discovered the Chandler wobble in the Earth's rotation axis.
  • Kimura appears in the long list of farside crater names approved by the IAU and published in Menzel, 1971.
