Nomenclature

Benjamin Apthorp Gould (September 27, 1824 – November 26, 1896) was an American astronomer. He started the Astronomical Journal in 1849 and in 1859 published a discussion of the places and proper motions of circumpolar stars to be used as standards by the United States Coast Survey. In 1861 he undertook the enormous task of preparing for publication the records of astronomical observations made at the U.S. Naval Observatory since 1850.

Something to investigate...
On page 506 of the book Mysterious Universe, a handbook of astronomical anomalies (William R. Corliss, The Sourcebook Project, 1979) there's the article On an Object seen near Comet B, on June 10, 1881 by W. Bone (Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1882), in which a certain Dr. Gould is mentioned. Is this the same person as Benjamin Apthorp Gould? - DannyCaes DannyCaes Mar 29, 2015
In the same book, page 57, a certain B.A.Gould is mentioned, in the article Stellar Objects seen during the Eclipse of 1869 (J.R.Hind, Nature, 1878).
