With Edward C. Pickering, she is credited with the creation of the Harvard Classification Scheme, which was the first serious attempt to organize and classify stars based on their temperatures.
- The name Alhazen F was introduced in Neison, 1876 and appears as Catalog Number 25 in Mary Blagg's Collated List as well as in the original IAU nomenclature of Named Lunar Formations (1935).
- The replacement name Cannon was proposed by Arthur and Whitaker in the Rectified Lunar Atlas (1963) and approved by IAU in 1964.
