- Zinner was captured on Apollo 15's orbital ITEK-panoramic photograph AS15-P-10360: Zinner is the first "large one" of the small bowl-shaped craters north of [/Schiaparelli Schiaparelli]. On AS15-P-10360, [/Schiaparelli Schiaparelli] is visible at the frame's left margin, Zinner to the right of it.

Nomenclature
- Named for Ernst Zinner (1886-1970), a German astronomer.
- This replacement name for a formerly [/lettered%20crater lettered crater] was introduced on LTO-38B4 (for which it served as the chart title). Although it appears in the cumulative list of approved names in [/IAU%20Transactions%20XVB IAU Transactions XVB], it is not clear precisely exactly when and where it was approved.
