Nomenclature

Zeno of Citium (Greek: 333 BC - 264 BC) was a Hellenistic Stoic philosopher from Citium, Cyprus.
According to Wilkins's and Moore's book THE MOON there should be a crater to the southeast of Zeno, called Hallowes, but the I.A.U. did not accept that name.
Hallowes was an English selenographer.
Strange to say, the name Zeno was also included on a map of Montes Riphaeus, made by J.N.Krieger (see the book MAPPING AND NAMING THE MOON by E.A.Whitaker, page 164, figure 104-a). According to J.N.Krieger, Zeno was a small crater (Euclides M) at the southern part of Montes Riphaeus (Krieger's "Riphaeus Major"). Detection of the name "Zeno" on Krieger's map: Danny Caes.
A curious "clair-obscur" effect related to the location of the evening terminator at or near Zeno, was photographed by the dedicated lunar observer Stefan Lammel. He calls this phenomenon the Zeno steps.
