  • Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (November 7, 1888 - November 21, 1970) was an Indian physicist, who was awarded the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the scattering of light and for the discovery of the Raman effect, which is named after him.
  • This replacement name for a formerly lettered crater first appeared on LTO-38B4 (February 1974). Although the LTO says the new name was already approved by the IAU, it was actually approved "as assigned" in 1976 (IAU Transactions XVIB). - Jim Mosher
