LO-IV-125H The feature labeled "Crescent" is actually [/Middle%20Crescent Middle Crescent] crater. The present name refers to the extended arc of craters of various sizes of which this is the middle. From much closer range, the unresolved [/Head Head]+[/Surveyor Surveyor] area, to the southwest of [/Middle%20Crescent Middle Crescent], becomes the [/Snowman Snowman] pattern.

Nomenclature

Astronaut-named feature, [/Apollo%2012%20Site Apollo 12 Site].

According to the explanation in [/IAU%20Transactions%20XVIB IAU Transactions XVIB], "Crescent" is the "descriptive name of a row of seven craters arranged in the form of an arch west of the landing site." Exactly which seven craters are intended is not totally clear from the Lunar Orbiter photo. - JimMosher JimMosher
