Nomenclature
- Aleksandr Stepanovich Popov; Russian physicist, engineer (1859-1905)
- C. Popov; Bulgarian astronomer (1880-1966).
- Discovered in Lunik 3 imaging of farside and named in Atlas of the Far Side of the Moon; approved by the IAU in 1961 (Whitaker, p 232).
- A pronounced valley west-northwest of Popov is unofficially called Vallis Popov by D.Caes.
