André Couder (November 27, 1897 - January 16, 1979) was a French astronomer. Couder was a telescope specialist who introduced several innovations in telescope design.
According to Whitaker (p. 236), this replacement name for a formerly lettered crater was introduced in NASA RP-1097. The name was approved by the IAU in 1985 (IAU Transactions XIXB).
On page 181 (LAC 90) of the Clementine Atlas (2004) the name Couder is not printed (this crater is still called Maunder Z).- DannyCaes Oct 16, 2011
