Nomenclature
- Willebrord van Roijen Snell (Snellius) (1580 - October 30, 1626) was a Dutch astronomer, optician and mathematician most famous for the law of refraction now known as Snell's law.
- According to [/Whitaker Whitaker] (pp. 215), this name was introduced on [/Riccioli Riccioli]'s map, however Riccioli used this name to label the feature now known as [/Stevinus Stevinus]. At the same time, Riccioli used the name [/Stevinus Stevinus] to label the present feature. Whitaker does not explain precisely when the names were swapped to their current assignments. - JimMosher JimMosher
- Catena Snellius A (an unofficial name from D.Caes for the chain of depressions southwest of Snellius A). http://bit.ly/2DssKxl
