Allvar Gullstrand (June 5, 1862 – July 28, 1930) was a Swedish ophthalmologist. He applied the methods of physical mathematics to the study of optical images and of the refraction of light in the eye. For this work he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1911.

Bibliography

About Gullstrand himself:
Allvar Gullstrand is mentioned in M.G.J.Minnaert's classic Light and Color in the Outdoors on page 115 at item 72: Imperfect images formed by the eye.
In the original Flemish-Dutch version (De Natuurkunde van 't Vrije Veld, Deel 1: Licht en Kleur in het Landschap) Allvar Gullstrand is mentioned on page 121 at item 72: Afwijkingen van de scherpe beeldvorming bij het oog.
It should be mentioned that the Moon-Wiki's most active contributor (D.Caes) has a Gullstrand-related problem on both his eyes. It looks as if some "partial irregular semi-fluid film" appeared on the cornea of his right eye (summer of 2014). This film created cometary halos around pointlike lightsources. Today, this disturbing optical effect is almost gone, but... a new film appeared on the cornea of his left eye! (autumn 2018). What could be the cause of these disturbing pieces of semi-fluid film? Is it perhaps some transformation of the cornea, activated by the radiation from the screen of his laptop computer? Is this a well-known medical problem?
