Description

Paper differentiates [/Oblique%20Impact%20Craters oblique] versus high-angle (vertical) impacts by comparing down-range and cross-range profiles. The crater profiles were extracted from the Apollo [/LTO LTO] charts.

Additional Information

  • Craters identified as high-angle based on symmetric profiles are: [/Timocharis Timocharis], [/Fischer Fischer], [/Macrobius Macrobius] A, [/Peek Peek] and [/Sulpicius%20Gallus Sulpicius Gallus]
  • Craters identified as low-angle (unsymmetric) are [/Necho Necho], [/Proclus Proclus], [/Pytheas Pytheas], [/Messier Messier] A, and [/Messier Messier]
  • [/Messier Messier] is identified as likely a 1° impact with [/Messier Messier] A as a ricochet product.
  • [/Torricelli Torricelli] A (not illustrated) and [/Pytheas Pytheas] are identified as likely 15° impacts. The remaining unsymmetric craters are believed to be from impacts in the range 15° to 45°.
