Description

Additional Information

  • According to laser altimetry mapping by the Kaguya spacecraft the highest place on the Moon (10.75 km above the nominal lunar radius) lies along the south rim of this basin. Reported in Planetary Society Blog.

Nomenclature

Basins filled with maria are named for the mare, and basins that were previously recognized as craters still bear the crater name. Basins located between craters have the names of the two opposite craters with a hyphen in between, in this case Dirichlet and Jackson.
