Description: Elger
(IAU Directions) CARLINI.--A small but prominent and deep little crater about 5 miles in diameter on the Mare Imbrium about midway between Lambert and the Sinus Iridum. There are many faint light streaks in the vicinity, one of which extends from Carlini to Bianchini, on the edge of the Sinus,--a distance of 300 miles. Schmidt shows a central peak.

The Ring west of Carlini L
- There's a curious ring several kilometers west of Carlini L (between the northern part of Dorsum Zirkel and Carlini L). The pinpoint coordinates of this ring (according to the LRO's ACT-REACT Quick Map) are: LATITUDE 31.38, LONGITUDE -25.79. This ring was also captured on several orbital frames made by Apollo 15's panoramic ITEK-camera, such as AS15-P-10275 (scroll all the way toward the frame's right margin).- DannyCaes DannyCaes Aug 25, 2012

Nomenclature
- Francesco Carlini (January 7, 1783-August 29, 1862) was an Italian astronomer. Together with Giovanni Antonio Amedeo Plana, he participated in a geodetic project for Austria and Italy, during which he also attempted to determine the weight of the earth.
- Carlini B (McDonald) was called Porthouse, and Carlini D was called De Bergerac by Wilkins and Moore, but the IAU did not accept either name.
- William Porthouse was an English amateur astronomer.
- Cyrano De Bergerac was a French writer (1620-1655). A farside crater was named for him in 1970.
