According to Eric M. Jones's ALSJ (Apollo Lunar Surface Journal), Apollo 17's B-and-W Hasselblad frame AS17-135-20629 might show crater Bronte. Unfortunately, this frame was made during the LRV's traverse to the west with the sun "behind" (in the east), and no visible shadows in the craters.

  • The spelling was changed to Brontë at some unknown later date.
  • The name officially honors Charlotte Brontë (1816 – 1855), an English novelist. Writers are not normally honored on the Moon, but exceptions were made for the astronaut-named minor features .
  • A crater about the same size as Bronte (southwest of Bronte itself) seems to have been called Wagner (source: APOLLO 17 Preliminary Science Report).- DannyCaes May 5, 2014
