- Warning: on the LPI's red labeled scan of Lunar Orbiter image II-034-M, the name Zernike is misprinted at the position of Spencer Jones W, northwest of Spencer Jones itself.
- Warning: Apollo 13's frames AS13-62-8915 to 8923 don't show Spencer Jones because at that time it (that crater) was already in the nocturnal part of the local sunset terminator.

Nomenclature
- Named for Sir Harold Spencer Jones (March 29, 1890 - November 3, 1960), a British astronomer. His correct surname is "Jones" but he preferred including his middle name as part of it. Spencer Jones was the Bruce Medalist for 1949, and much additional information about him can be found on that site.
- Spencer Jones was among the long list of farside names published in Menzel, 1971.
- Jones is the name of one of the small craterlets on the Taurus-Littrow Valley, aka the landingsite of Apollo 17. Jones (crater) - "Named for John Paul Jones (1747-1792), Scottish-born naval hero of the American Revolution who established his adopted country as a seafaring nation which was, eventually, without peer." (source: APOLLO LUNAR SURFACE JOURNAL, Eric M. Jones).
