Nomenclature

Named for Willem de Sitter (May 6, 1872 – November 20, 1934), a Dutch mathematician, physicist and astronomer. He made major contributions to the field of physical cosmology.
The name [/Euctemon Euctemon] J was inserted into the original IAU nomenclature of [/Named%20Lunar%20Formations Named Lunar Formations] as Catalog Number 999c, where it is noted that Franz called the feature [/Euctemon Euctemon] i.
The replacement name De Sitter was proposed by Arthur and Whitaker in the [/Rectified%20Lunar%20Atlas Rectified Lunar Atlas] (1963) and approved by IAU in [/IAU%20Transactions%20XIIB 1964].
