- Two Lunar Orbiter photographs of Šafařík seem to be online as "Safavrik".
- The red labeled Lunar Orbiter 2 photograph LO-II 034 Med shows the name Šafařík ("Safavrik") at the location of crater Virtanen, which is too northward! (south-southeast of Lacus Luxuriae and Buys-Ballot). Šafařík's location is east-southeast of Sharonov, and north of Tiselius.

Bibliography (a strange story...)
Something which was mentioned by the Belgian author Julien Weverbergh and by the Romanian author Ion Hobana in one of their books of mysterious apparitions in earth's atmosphere and beyond:
- On the 24th of april 1874, a certain professor Schafarick (Safarik?) at Prague observed ''''such a strange object, it appeared brightly illuminated while crossing the moon rather slowly, and remained visible afterwards. I don't know what I have to say about it...''''''' (Jacques Vallee, Anatomy, page 28) (L'annee Scientifique, 1877, page 45).
