Michael Light : Full Moon (1999)

Description

This is a coffee-table type book accompanying an exhibit of large-format prints prepared by artist-photographer Michael Light from Apollo films. It includes a 7-page essay ("The Farthest Place") by space historian Andrew Chaikin and a 5-page essay ("The Skin of the Moon") by Light.

Additional Information

  • Each of the 128 images has a reasonably detailed caption and explanation found in a separate section towards the end of the book. In the captions, each photo is carefully attributed to a particular astronaut (even if taken by an automated camera), but the actual Apollo frame number that was printed is not indicated. Another major problem with the format is that the main body of the book, in which the large prints of the exhibit are reproduced, has neither page nor plate numbers, placing a great burden on the reader who wants to locate the caption for a particular image.
  • Although assigned a Library of Congress call number (TL789.8.U6 L34 1999) in the "Astronautics, space travel" category, because it accompanies an artistic exhibit, this book tends to be found in the Art holdings of university libraries.
