LO-IV-125H The feature labeled "Crescent" is actually Middle Crescent crater. The present name refers to the extended arc of craters of various sizes of which this is the middle. From much closer range, the unresolved Head+Surveyor area, to the southwest of Middle Crescent, becomes the Snowman pattern.

Nomenclature

Astronaut-named feature, Apollo 12 Site.

According to the explanation in IAU Transactions XVIB, "Crescent" is the "descriptive name of a row of seven craters arranged in the form of an arch west of the landing site." Exactly which seven craters are intended is not totally clear from the Lunar Orbiter photo. - Jim Mosher
