Nomenclature

  • Anne Sheepshanks; British benefactor (1789-1876).
  • Anne was the sister of Richard Sheepshanks, a prominent British astronomer (for whom the crater and its satellite features are not named). After Richard's death, Anne contributed funds to the Cambridge University Observatory, which they used to purchase a modern telescope, also named in her honor. - Jim Mosher
