AS17-M-2830 Helmert is the smaller dark-floored crater at the bottom; it appears to partially overlay the larger [/Kao Kao] at the top.

Three of Apollo 8's orbital Hasselblad photographs show the bay-shaped Helmert with its dark floor: AS08-12-2171, AS08-12-2172, and AS08-12-2173.
Apollo 16's orbital ITEK-panoramic frames AS16-P-4352 and AS16-P-4357 captured a southward oblique look at Helmert (very near the left margins of both frames).

Friedrich Robert; German astronomer, geodesist (1843-1917).
- This name appears on LTO-81B3. It does not appear to replace any previous IAU-approved designation.
