The Hayn-Bel'kovich Shadow

  • Hayn and Bel'kovich are two craters near the moon's northeastern limb, and curiously enough, there's a black shadow in (or near?) these craters when it's about two days before Full Moon, which is too soon to be part of the eastern limb's evening terminator! (observed by Danny Caes during the night of march the 3th, 1996)(there was Full Moon on march the 5th) (the same phenomenon was observed on january the 3th, 2015)(Full Moon on the 5th). - DannyCaes DannyCaes Jan 5, 2015

Nomenclature

  • Igor V.; Soviet astronomer (1904-1949).
  • Name given by Arthur and Whitaker in Rectified Lunar Atlas (1963) and approved by IAU in 1964 ([/Whitaker Whitaker], 1999, p234).
  • Rima Bel'kovich (an unofficial name from a dedicated explorer of lunar surface features for the rille on the southwestern part of Bel'kovich's floor).
